Default Cordless Mouse

Last year I bought a Logitech cordless mouse. The kid at Staples who sold it to me, said he has the exact same mouse/model. Since this was my first experience into the "cordless world", I asked the kid how long does the batteries last in his mouse. He said he uses his mouse everyday (as he was also a student), and he told me he gets about 6 months of use before he has to change the batteries. I'm lucky if I get my battereis to last 6 weeks. I was just wondering if that is the norm, on this type of item. (just for reference, I use my computer/mouse about 4 hours per day...the rest of the time it is turned off) Any help/opinons will be helpful. Thanks~

WOW!! THAT is horrible!

We use our computer for at 'least' 10hrs/day... but it is also left on all the time too. We get about 6 months out of our batteries. Only once did they last a month... and I had run out of good batteries... therefore... had to put crappy ones in.

Over the years, I've had 3 wireless mice (mouses?). The first one was a no-name brand bought at futureshop. The batteries would die every 3-4 weeks - what a pain. I ended up buying some rechargables and would have 1 set on the charger and one set in the mouse ... then swap them out when I needed. The next two (which I still run with) are logitech and would have to say that they last a heck of a long time - I dunno - maybe 6-8 months.

Battery technology has come along way in the past 5 years - starting from 1500mAmp batteries to something like 2500mAmp ... I am now using Duracell PowerPix batteries in my two mice for at least 5-6 months now and they are still going strong. You may also want to consider using the Energizer Lithium batteries for your mouse if everyday batteries dont last too long.

Another thought - if its not too old, perhaps you can return it to where you bought it and get another model.

I went the rechargeable way too. They recharge in a day and last about 3-4 weeks and then flip them. works well for me

That's weird. I'm no mouse expert but two things pop in my head.

1. You are using really bad batteries. I know when I had my old Kodak camera I used the Kodak batteries it came with and the batteries died quickly.
I replaced them with duracells and they last forever!

2. The mouse could be defective. Usually a cordless mouse will go into "sleep mode" if it isn't being used. As soon as you touch it, it wakes up.
If it's not going into sleep mode it will always be on.

Have you scanned www.logitech.com for support infromation?
I found this bit of info:
Quote:
Battery life of cordless devices varies due to multiple factors, including hours of use, the surface on which you use it, brand, type, or age of battery. We include batteries with our products that typically last an average of 5-6 months in non-optical devices and 2-3 months in optical. We have also built our line of Optical mice with four modes of operation designed to extend battery life as much as possible.
There are a few things you can also do to extend the battery life of your mouse. First, make sure you use the alkaline batteries; rechargeable batteries do not last as long as alkaline ones. (The MX 700 is the only device that we suggest using rechargeable NiMh batteries, not alkaline.) Second, use the mouse on a light colored surface such as a sheet of white paper. Darker surfaces force the LED on the underside of the device to shine brighter, which requires more battery power.
Note: The light on the underside of the mouse will always be on as long as batteries are installed. This is necessary for the device to work. The only way to completely turn off the mouse is to remove the batteries.

The batteries i'm using are "AA" Duracells. From what you people are telling me, it sounds like I got a defective mouse...unfortuneatly it has gone way pass the warranty.

Logitech is a good name... if you aren't happy, try taking it back and asking them at Staples.. (they are usually resonable there!)

Rechargable batteries are a good idea .. have two sets as mentioned above is optimal.

I use a Logitech bluetooth (wireless) keyboard and mouse combo.. and the great thing about that it is that the mouse sits in a plug in charger when I'm not using it.. so only my keyboard gets the (rechargable) batteries..

good luck!
